What's the purpose of prison in your view? And what do you wish it to be?

Do you primarily want a wrongdoer to suffer? Or are you more concerned that they are rehabilitated? Do you have any sympathy for programmes that work towards rehabilitation? Do you agree that in the long run money spent during a prisoners sentence on welfare and education is more cost effective than ignoring prisoners ordeals?
